Over a career that took him to the very top of his profession, Richard worked for some of the wealthiest and most discerning clients in the world, including members of the Royal Family.

His masonry work was not simply functional — it was art. Richard won the Gold Medal at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show not once, but twice. For those unfamiliar with the Chelsea Flower Show, winning a gold medal is considered one of the highest honors in British craftsmanship. Winning it twice is extraordinary.

At the height of his masonry career, Richard was running two major contracts simultaneously — including the restoration of Studley Castle — with a team of over 60 stone masons working under him. These were high-stakes, high-pressure contracts, with significant financial penalties for any delays. Richard delivered. But halfway through those final two projects, Richard made a decision. These would be his last masonry jobs.

He had built something remarkable — a beautiful home with two acres of land, a reputation that opened doors most craftsmen never see, and a set of values around quality and honesty that had taken decades to earn. In 2004, Richard registered the Bollard Security domain. A new chapter had begun — but the principles that had taken him to the top of his trade came with him.
