Our double leaf height restriction barriers provide a reliable way to control vehicle access and reduce the risk of collisions with infrastructure or overhead features. Designed to span wider entrances, they use a two-arm swinging design mounted between fixed posts to help prevent large or high-sided vehicles from gaining unauthorised entry, especially to areas where they may end up being a hazard.
Manufactured from strong galvanised steel, our double leaf height restriction barriers are customisable in width, height, colour and finish, so you can tailor them according to the demands of your site. That makes them ideal for industrial estates, loading bays, service yards, and any area that needs a fine degree of traffic control.
Every barrier is made to last, and with more than 25 years of experience to our name, at Bollard Security we’re proud to offer expert guidance on the best configuration for your space. You can reach us via our contact us page.
A double leaf height restriction barrier consists of two hinged barrier arms mounted on either side of an entrance, meeting at the centre to form a continuous overhead obstruction at a set clearance height. Unlike single bar barriers, the double leaf design spans wider openings without requiring a long unsupported arm, making it structurally more resilient and better suited to high-traffic entrances. They are the most commonly specified height barrier for commercial car parks and retail facilities across the UK.
Height restriction barriers can be set to a range of clearance heights to suit your site requirements. Standard configurations typically cover clearances between 1.8 metres and 3.0 metres, with custom heights available on request. The most common car park clearance height in the UK is 2.0 metres, though sites accommodating disabled badge holders or taller standard vehicles may specify 2.1 or 2.2 metres. Our team will advise on the most appropriate height during your free site survey.
No. Standard double leaf height restriction barriers are entirely passive mechanical systems. They require no electrical supply, control panels, or automation to operate. The barrier arms are fixed at the required clearance height and deflect on contact with any oversized vehicle attempting to pass beneath them. This makes them extremely cost-effective to install and maintain, with no ongoing energy costs or risk of electrical failure.
Double leaf height restriction barriers are designed with a hinged breakaway mechanism. When struck by an oversized vehicle, the barrier arms pivot upward on their hinges rather than transferring the full impact force to the mounting posts and structure. This significantly reduces damage to both the barrier and the vehicle, and means that in most cases only the barrier arms, rather than the entire system, need to be replaced following an impact. Replacement arms are readily available from Bollard Security Ltd.
Yes. Double leaf height restriction barriers can be retrofitted to existing car park entrances and access roads with minimal groundworks. Our installation team will assess the entrance width, surface conditions, and required clearance height during a free site survey before recommending the most suitable barrier configuration. Bollard Security Ltd manages the full installation process across the UK, including London, Essex, Birmingham, and Yorkshire, with minimum disruption to your site operations.
