Driveway Bollards And Security Posts For Medium Vehicles
Robust and reliable, our range of driveway bollards for medium sized vehicles provides flawless protection for cars like the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Mercedes-Benz A-class and BMW 1-series (just to name a few). Different bollards amongst our range are deployed with slightly different methods – many are telescopic or lifted-assisted, allowing them to be easily raised and lowered into the ground to provide (or restrict) access to a certain area.
All of our driveway bollards are specifically designed to be simple to use, and sturdy enough to provide complete peace of mind whatever the setting, whether they’re installed in commercial, residential, public or private spaces. Whatever requirement you have in mind, you can be sure that we’ll have a bollard or driveway post to suit you here at Bollard Security.
Please note – these are only recommendations, and you’re free to use a larger bollard if you prefer. If you’d like more information, or any specific advice, please contact our friendly sales team on 07739 790934.
Frequently asked questions
What makes driveway bollards for medium vehicles different from standard driveway posts?
Medium vehicle driveway bollards are built to a higher structural specification than standard lightweight driveway posts. They feature thicker steel walls, heavier base plates, and deeper in-ground fixings, all of which combine to provide greater resistance against the higher impact forces generated by vans, SUVs, and MPVs. Standard residential bollards are typically rated for small car impact only, making them inadequate for driveways that are vulnerable to incursion by larger vehicles.
Will medium duty driveway bollards stop a van?
Medium duty driveway bollards are designed and rated to provide meaningful physical resistance against mid-size vehicles including vans and large SUVs travelling at low speeds, the typical approach speed in a driveway theft or fly-tipping scenario. While no bollard can guarantee to stop every vehicle in every circumstance, our medium vehicle driveway posts present a highly credible deterrent that significantly raises the difficulty and risk for any would-be intruder, causing most to seek an easier target elsewhere.
Can driveway bollards for medium vehicles be removed to allow access?
Yes. Our medium vehicle driveway bollard range includes fully removable variants that can be unlocked and lifted clear of their ground socket to allow authorised vehicle access. Removal and reinsertion typically takes seconds using the supplied key and lifting handle. This makes them an ideal solution for driveways that require daily vehicle access alongside robust out-of-hours security. Fixed non-removable options are also available for perimeter protection applications where permanent obstruction is required.
What surfaces can medium duty driveway bollards be installed on?
Our medium vehicle driveway security posts can be installed on most common driveway surface types including tarmac, concrete, and block paving. The installation method varies slightly depending on surface type and sub-base depth, but in all cases our installation team will assess ground conditions and recommend the most appropriate fixing method during your free site survey. Correct installation depth is critical to ensuring the bollard performs to its rated impact resistance specification.
How many driveway bollards do I need for a medium-sized vehicle entrance?
The number of bollards required depends on the width of your entrance and the spacing needed to prevent a target vehicle from passing between them. As a general guide, bollards should be positioned no more than 1.2 to 1.5 metres apart to prevent a standard van from passing through the gap. For a typical single driveway of around 2.5 to 3 metres width, two or three bollards are usually sufficient. Our team will calculate the optimal number and positioning during a free site visit to ensure maximum effectiveness.
